Adele, LMFAO, Rihanna, Lady Gaga and Lil Wayne lead the finalists for the 2012 Billboard Music Awards, which will take place at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand and be broadcast live Sunday May 20, 8/7c on ABC.

Meanwhile, LMFAO is a finalist in 17 award categories, although the electro-pop duo actually scored 22 entries compared to Adele’s 20. LMFAO and Adele will square off in the Top Hot 100 Artist category, which also includes Bruno Mars, Katy Perry and Rihanna.
Speaking of Rihanna, the pop superstar is a finalist in 13 categories this year, after leading the pack with 18 category appearances in 2011. Lady Gaga and Lil Wayne each snagged a spot in 10 categories, and will both compete against Adele, Rihanna and Katy Perry for the prestigious Top Artist prize. And the Top New Artist category features a diverse collection of fresh talent, with Bad Meets Evil, Big Sean, Foster The People, Scotty McCreery and Wiz Khalifa serving as the 2012 finalists.
The awards will reflect Billboard’s chart rankings based on key fan interactions with music, including album sales and downloads, track downloads, radio airplay and touring as well as streaming and social interactions on Facebook, Twitter, Vevo, Youtube, Spotify and other popular online destinations for music. These measurements are tracked year-round by Billboard and its data partners, including Nielsen Entertainment and Next Big Sound. The awards will be based on the reporting period of March 1, 2011 through February 29, 2012. Top artists will be recognized in a variety of genres, including R&B, Rap, Pop, Country, Rock, Latin and Alternative.
The 2012 Billboard Music Awards are shaping up to be a one-of-a-kind event: Justin Bieber, No1Currie Underwood, LMFAO and The Wanted are the first performers announced for the May 20 show, which will air from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas for the second year in a row on ABC.
Meanwhile, Justin Bieber is also set to return with a hotly anticipated new album, “Believe” (due June 19), that has already been previewed by the irresistible lead single, “Boyfriend.” The teen phenom topped the Billboard 200 chart twice last year, with his “Never Say Never: The Remixes” album and “Under The Mistletoe” holiday effort, after scoring his first No. 1 album with “My World 2.0″ in 2010.
Party masters LMFAO have shuffled to the top of the Hot 100 twice in the past year, with “Party Rock Anthem” and “Sexy And I Know It” — as well as a performance alongside Madonna at the Bridgestone Super Bowl Halftime Show last February — turning the electro-pop duo into trend-setting stars.
U.K. pop vocal group The Wanted have exploded to success in the U.S., as their hypnotizing single “Glad You Came” hitting the Top 5 of the Hot 100 and performances on “American Idol” and the “Today” show preceding their self-t*tled debut U.S. EP, out April 24.
More announcements are on the way, with additional acts and presenters to be revealed in the coming weeks. Last year, the Billboard Music Awards returned in grand fashion at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, with show-stopping performances by Beyonce, Pitbull, Nicki Minaj, Lady Antebellum, the Black Eyed Peas, Rihanna and Britney Spears, among others.

American Idol rocked its West Hollywood studios last night with performances from LMFAO and former winner Kris Allen. The program closed by sending home Colton Dixon. Colton received the fewest amount of votes following his Wednesday night arrangements of Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance” and Earth, Wind & Fire’s “September.” Next week the six remaining hopefuls return to face the judges, inching closer to the May 24 finale when the next Idol is crowned.
LMFAO got the crowd on their feet last night, and today they have even more reason to celebrate. The 2012 Billboard Music Award nominees were announced this morning, and just behind Adele, who earned 18 nods, was LMFAO with a staggering 17 nominations for their Party Rockers album. The Billboard Music Awards take place May 20 with major acts in the music industry expected to perform their chart-topping hits.

SEOUL – US pop diva Lady Gaga arrived in South Korea late Friday, one week before a Seoul performance which will kick off her third concert tour.
The singer, wearing a floor-length low-cut white dress, white gloves and a pearl-encrusted mask, blew kisses to fans at Seoul's Gimpo airport who tried to snap her image on smartphones.
Her schedule in South Korea for the coming week was unclear and concert organisers Hyundai Card declined to give details.
"The Born This Way Ball" tour begins on April 27 at Seoul's Olympic Stadium.
From there Lady Gaga will take her hits and extravagant costumes to Hong Kong, Japan, Taiwan, the Philippines, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, New Zealand and Australia, and then on to 21 European cities.

Cheryl Cole set to be on Modern Family
Today sees Cheryl’s return to the music biz with her new Calvin Harris-written and produced track Call My Name.
But just as she returns to her day job, she could be back doing TV.
The singer, 28, is to be offered a role on Barack Obama’s favourite programme, Modern Family.
A source at ABC confirms that producers for the mockumentary, which attracts an audience of 12.6 million each week, are desperate to land the Geordie star.
“They really want to get Cheryl involved,” they say. "And it’s a coveted slot. Everyone from Britney Spears to Lady Gaga have made it known that they would love to appear in it. It’s a real honour to be asked to do it, and it would be a great next step after Cheryl’s appearance in What To Expect When You’re Expecting. And, it would be a massive dig at The X Factor USA.”
The two shows went head-to-head in a ratings war while Cheryl was a judge on the panel last year, but Modern Family trounced its rival.
All the more reason to accept that invitation, eh Chez?
Yesterday, Cheryl also revealed some lyrics from her new song: “It’s the constant thought of my baby taking up my time, it’s the non-stop vision of you that’s playing on my mind.”
